One device, several videos

Depending on the audience and where it is shown, the same animation serves to explain, train or present, with the rules specific to each use.

3D medical illustration of a generic auto-injector in exploded view: cap, needle cover, housing, prefilled syringe, plunger rod, spring, rear housing and button

Rotate the object with your mouse, finger, arrow keys or the rotate buttons; the slider spreads its parts. A generic auto-injector in exploded view: cap, needle cover, housing, prefilled syringe, plunger rod, spring, rear housing and button. Illustrations created by Eryon, with the help of AI.
  • A medical device explainer video

What the device does, for whom and how: from the overview to the internal mechanism, in the words of the instructions for use and the intended purpose. Nothing on screen suggests a use that the conformity assessment has not covered.

  • Exploded view animation of a device

Cap, needle cover, syringe, spring: in 3D animation, each part comes away, is named and returns to its place. The exploded view shows the inside of the finished product. A single-use prefilled auto-injector forms one product with its medicine: its video then follows medicine rules (marketing authorisation, SmPC and, for advertising, ANSM approval). Images commit you as much as text, and every diagram stays labelled as an illustration.

  • The instructional video for a medical device

The steps in the instructions for use, in order: prepare, use, remove, dispose of. The procedure is shown at the user's pace, and every warning in the instructions appears at the moment it matters.

  • The patient instructions video, alongside the paper version

For patients who use the device at home: the information in the instructions for use and the product's characteristics, in images and plain words, given after prescription or fitting. Without promotional claims, it is not classified as advertising by the ANSM, the French regulator.

  • Training clinicians to use the device

Demonstration of use, maintenance, reprocessing of the device: the video trains nurses, pharmacists or theatre teams. Consistent with the instructions for use and without claims about the product's advantages, it remains a correct-use tool.

  • The launch film, with its statements

To present the device to healthcare professionals: claimed intended purpose and performance, class, notified body number, statements legible on screen. It is an advertisement: we write it as such, ready for your review and, if the device requires it in France, for the ANSM authorisation.

A glucose sensor explained, with no brand

This film explains a device without selling it: its principle and its limits, in plain words, with no name or brand. For your product, the method is the same, starting from your instructions for use and your intended purpose.

Still from our continuous glucose monitoring video: the tip of the sensor filament, coated with enzymes, under the skin (3D rendering, not to scale)
Excerpt, 10 s How does a glucose sensor work?. How a sensor measures glucose in the interstitial fluid, under the skin, what it displays, its lag of about 5 to 10 minutes behind blood glucose, longer when glucose changes quickly, when to check with a finger-prick blood glucose test and its place in follow-up. A generic device: no brand.

From launch to patient follow-up

A well-referenced animation can be reused at every stage of the device's life, from launch to updates of the instructions for use.

A launch: presenting the device to healthcare professionals, at congresses or on sales calls, with its mandatory statements.

Training: teaching clinicians to prepare, use, maintain and reprocess the device, in hospital or in the community.

A handover to the patient: the correct-use video, given after prescription or fitting, turns the instructions for use into images.

An update to the instructions for use: the film, cut step by step, is revised where the instructions change.

A new market: the video in that market's language, every line tied to that country's instructions for use, and local advertising rules checked at scoping.

Your instructions for use first, then the literature

For a device, the first sources are your own: instructions for use, intended purpose, labelling, then the scientific literature. Every line of the script is tied to them, with the page and the exact passage, before the first frame.

  1. 01

    Scoping, in 30 minutes

Objective, audience, where the video will be shown, available references and regulatory points to watch.

  2. 02

    The referenced script

Every line is tied to a reference, with its page and the exact passage that supports it.

  3. 03

    The visuals

Motion design and medical animation, with AI assisting part of the production. Diagrams remain illustrations.

  4. 04

    Checks and delivery

An automated check finds every passage, word for word, on the page cited; two independent AI-assisted audits then re-check a sample in the documents; your review committee, or your MLR review in a pharmaceutical company, approves the final version.

Advertising, correct use and instructions: what the law says

In France, a video that promotes the prescription, sale or use of a device is an advertisement (Article L.5213-1 of the French Public Health Code): objective, with the notified body number (Article L.5213-2), and suggesting no use outside the intended purpose (Regulation (EU) 2017/745, Article 7). For the devices listed in the amended ministerial order of 24 September 2012, the ANSM authorises in advance advertising aimed at healthcare professionals and, to the public, advertising for dermal fillers (Article L.5213-4). To the public, a device covered by national health insurance can only be promoted if it is class I or IIa (Article L.5213-3). A correct-use video faithful to the instructions for use, without claims, is not advertising according to the ANSM, and no video replaces the instructions for use. We write within this framework; the decision to release it remains yours.

Frequently asked questions

Is a medical device video an advertisement?
Under French law, yes, as soon as it aims to promote the prescription, supply, sale or use of the device, whatever it is called (Article L.5213-1 of the French Public Health Code). It must then present the device objectively, suggest nothing outside its intended purpose and carry the statements its audience expects. The ANSM, however, excludes from advertising a training or correct-use video consistent with the instructions for use, without promotional claims, intended for the clinicians who handle the device or given to the patient who uses it.
Does the video need ANSM authorisation before release?
For a video shown in France, only if it is an advertisement for a device listed in the amended ministerial order of 24 September 2012 (Article L.5213-4 of the French Public Health Code). For the public, this list covers only dermal fillers. For healthcare professionals, it covers in particular implantable defibrillators and pacemakers, coronary and intracranial stents, breast implants, hip, knee, shoulder and ankle prostheses, intraocular lenses and surgical laser generators. Other advertisements are checked after release.
Can a video replace the instructions for use?
No. Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/2226, as amended by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1234, allows electronic rather than paper instructions for use for devices intended for professional users and for software. If it is reasonably foreseeable that lay persons will also use the device, their instructions stay on paper. Even in electronic form, the instructions exist in full as text; video files can only be added to them (Article 6). A patient instructions video therefore accompanies the instructions for use, without replacing them.
What are the 4 classes of medical devices?
Classes I, IIa, IIb and III, assigned according to the device's intended purpose and its inherent risks, under the rules in Annex VIII of Regulation (EU) 2017/745. For a video, the class matters twice. In France, an advertisement aimed at healthcare professionals lists it among its mandatory statements. To the public, a device covered by national health insurance can only be advertised if it is class I or IIa (Article L.5213-3 of the French Public Health Code and ministerial order of 21 December 2012).
Can the video go online or on social media?
Yes, depending on its status. In France, a correct-use video can sit in the non-promotional products section of your website, with no mention of reimbursement. An advertisement for healthcare professionals stays on pages reserved for them, with real access control when advertising to the public is prohibited. For the general public, the ANSM internet charter only allows promotion on an open social network, as a products page, if the operator can disable comments, sharing and likes.
